A little bit about me….

I grew up in Gimli, a place that imprinted upon me greatly. Growing up by the beach, and living in a town with the highest percentage population of Icelandic people outside of Iceland... Somehow both have become wrapped into my brand Fjara.... An Icelandic word that means tides, beach, ebb and flow.

I went to school at the University of Winnipeg studying Biology, then moved to Toronto to study Fashion Design at George Brown college, I worked in the fashion industry here in Winnipeg at Mondetta, and Ricki’s. I studied Silversmithing at Sturgeon Heights collegiate and now design and handmake jewelry in my home studio.

I have many interests other than artistic pursuits, I am passionate about geopolitics, science, history, and justice. I also love music, dancing, movies, the gym, and thoroughly enjoying my life with my soul mate and love Sasha Ghanbar, who is an intelligent, attractive, kind, funny and wild Iranian Polymer Chemist/Engineer who works as an Engineering manager. We have a cat named Enzo who we love and adore.

I have the best family in the world, I was lucky to grow up in such a loving, warm, empathetic, intuitive, creative, brave and intelligent family. I am 100% Icelandic, and each side have these traits I admire.

I'm a very spiritual Libra.

Although I reference Norse mythology, I however do not follow the Norse Pantheon in my own spiritual beliefs.

I design and handmake jewelry by way of lost wax casting, organic casting, and forging methods…..AKA how I am able to bring my ideas to life.

Upon visualizing a design, I then utilize Rhino 3D software, Chitubox 3D printing software, and Elegoo MARS Pro 3D printer, alongside traditional techniques like hand carving wax to manifest my designs into life.

I then embed this wax creation into a flask I fill with a wet investment mixture. I remove all the bubbles by degassing them inside a vacuum chamber.

After letting it harden I put the flask into the kiln, slowly ramping up the temperature to about a toasty 730* Celcius in order to burn out the wax hidden inside, creating a mold of my carved wax creation. I then melt the silver into a glowing pink molten puddle inside a crucible at about 960* Celcius, then pouring this liquid silver into the mold while vacuum casting it.

Once I have cast the pieces, I do a multitude of additional work on them, which include sawing, filing, sanding, polishing, setting stones, and soldering. I use a torch with the loveliest blue flame to solder on handmade earring posts and to solder various other pieces together to create the jewelry. I also do my own photography.

Inspired by my Icelandic heritage, the beach, nature, and fluid shapes.
